SERIES INFORMATION: Wednesday’s game will be the third encounter between TSU and Portland. Their initial meeting occurred during the Second Round of the 1957 NAIA Tournament in Kansas City, resulting in an 87-60 victory for TSU. The subsequent contest took place in 1963, concluding with a narrow 68-69 win for the Pilots.
TSU IN RIP CITY: In addition to TSU’s game against the Pilots, the Tigers ventured to Rose City in 1982 as participants in the Far West Classic hosted by Oregon State. Throughout the tournament, TSU faced off against Drake, Montana, and the Beavers. The most recent encounter with a team from the unique realm of Voodoo was a home match against Portland State, culminating in a 71-74 victory for the Vikings. The upcoming Friday match against the Oregon Ducks will signify the completion of the checklist, facing all four Division 1 teams from the state of Oregon.
18 TO 1K FOR M1F: Marcus Fitzgerald Jr. is on the verge of a milestone, with just 18 points needed to reach the 1,000-point mark as a Tiger. In the previous season, Fitzgerald Jr. showcased his skills, achieving a career-high average of 13.6 points (421) while starting in all 31 games. He made a notable contribution by scoring seven points in the season opener on Monday against Jefferson St. rival Fisk.
JITOBOH’S JUSTICE: In last Thursday’s victory over Kentucky State, Jason Jitoboh recorded a career-best 18 points. Additionally, he set personal records with seven made field goals and four successful free throws.
JONES’ HOME COOKIN’: Jaylen Jones achieved a season-high with 13 points and secured four rebounds in a standout performance against Kentucky State. Across his initial two games at Gentry, Jones is maintaining an impressive average of nine points, four rebounds, two steals, and 1.5 assists per game.
